The LCN#5 Cafe

The new cooking craze that has besieged the LCN household means that the amount of time spent in the kitchen has dramatically increased, and as a result, there are some desired improvements.

Our home has not always had air conditioning and so the next-best thing was found in nearly every room in the house: ceiling fans. Our kitchen currently boasts two. The same practical-minded former owners that installed them chose the most economical ones, and despite the noticeable vibrations and unattractiveness, they move air and provide light. It is unfortunate that the air-moving benefits cannot frequently be enjoyed while in the kitchen. The gas stove and the increased air flow are not necessarily compatible unless you've got a barn-burning sized flame going.

The days are numbered for these fans. All of the other fans in the house have been upgraded to much quieter (and of course, much more fashionable) models. These will not be upgraded, but removed to make way for light fixtures. I have a fascination with lamps and light fixtures, and have long-admired a particular lampshade offered by Rejuvenation.

While I absolutely love this shade, for both aesthetic reasons and also because they are perfect for what will eventually be a black & white kitchen with red accents, this is not the most exciting "upgrade." This honor goes to my cafe-style blackboard. A small section of wall in the corner of the kitchen was sanded, coated with primer, then painted with two coats of black chalkboard paint floor to ceiling. Using Liquid Ink chalk markers, I can plan out the weekly menus and doodle to my heart's content. It is so much fun that surely there must be a catch. Mr. LCN#5 has suggested taking a picture of the wall and posting it here, so here you go:

Bon appetite!
